The first one was always going to be the hardest. Nobody had done it before, nobody knew who else was coming, and there is no template for a room of DJs where nobody is playing.

Two hundred and forty-five of us registered. Forty genres between us, from open format to Afro house, and a spread that ran from people two years into their first residency to people who have been doing this longer than some of the room has been alive. That mix was the entire point, and it turned up.

No decks, no set times, no headliner. Just the people behind the flyers, in one room, finally in the same place at the same time. What the photographs mostly show is people hugging — which was not on any run sheet, and is the part worth keeping.
